2. All weapons, blunted or otherwise, will be treated as WEAPONS. All training weapons are capable of harm and must be given respect. All outside weapons and gear must be given approval for use by the head instructor.

3. Vulgar and crude language will not be allowed during classes, meetings or events by anyone… including instructors.

4. Proper protective gear must be worn for any martial engagement. If you think you might need gear, you certainly do.

5. During open bouts (sparring or slow play) fencers shall salute their opponent and return salutes as a sign of readiness and respect.

6. All equipment must be returned to its proper place at the end of class and open floor. Do not use other student’s equipment without permission.

Rules of Engagement during sparring and slow play

1. Establish agreed upon intensity, duration, goals, and allowed strikes; ie No grapples, strikes to certain targets, etc.

2. Ensure fencers are wearing and using appropriate gear and equipment.

3. Fencers shall salute to signal readiness and be respectful of their partner.

4. Acknowledge all strikes made against you by your partner. Do so with a brief hand gesture at a safe distance.

5. Indicate you need to stop by raising one hand while keeping your weapon in a long guard and backing away. Speak, “Hold” loudly enough for your partner to hear. Weapons should be held in a neutral position when not in an engagement. Continuing an attack once a hold has been called is forbidden.

6. If your partner is injured, attend to them immediately, and call for help as needed. Do not leave them unattended if they are experiencing any dizziness, confusion, blurred vision, sudden headache, or nausea.

7. Disrespectful behavior, and disregard for safety and rules will result in suspension or termination of sparring and slow play privileges.
